ExWHUEmployee, who’s well-known for his transfer knowledge, has claimed on The Transfer Show that Tottenham Hotspur are very much interested in Clement Lenglet.

Spurs are very clearly looking to add some competition and quality into the backline ahead of a season that will see them once again play in the Champions League, as they tried hard to bring in Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan, although all those attempts failed.

More recently Spurs have been linked with moves for Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig and also Barcelona’s Lenglet, with the latter perhaps an easier deal to complete given the La Liga club’s financial problems.

ExWHUEmployee, however, has claimed that former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is also very keen on the French international.

“Spurs are also trying to sign Barcelona’s French defender Clement Lenglet which is a good move in my limited knowledge as I think he’s a decent player but there is interest from Roma and Jose Mourinho as well,” he said.

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ pursuit of Lenglet…

Antonio Conte and Tottenham moving for Lenglet, who was called a ‘top player‘ by France boss Didier Deschamps, would certainly be an interesting one as he was not even a regular starter for Barcelona last season featuring in just 21 league outings, so questions would surely be raised as to why that was the case during a campaign in which they struggled to compete consistently.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

However, considering Conte was having to deploy Ben Davies, a more natural left-back, as a third centre-back, would suggest that Lenglet, who is left-footed, could be an instant upgrade and at least give Spurs more options in the backline as they look to compete in all four competitions this term.
