Tottenham Hotspur would be willing to break an unwritten rule in the summer to land their former ace, Christian Eriksen, in the summer.

This has been said by the transfer insider Dean Jones who was speaking on the latest edition of the Touchline Talk show ahead of the final weekend of the season.

Should Eriksen rejoin Spurs this summer?

Yes

No

No

As everyone will be well aware by now, Eriksen is set to become a free agent in the summer with his short-term deal with Brentford coming to an end soon.

It is believed the Bees are now confident of keeping Eriksen into next season with a long-term deal believed to have been offered to the Dane.

However, with Spurs waiting in the wings, Jones believes the unwritten rule of not going back to former players would be scrapped in this case:

(1:20) “Of course, Brentford want to keep him but there’s no doubt they’re going to struggle to do that. Usually, there’s a rule isn’t there like don’t go back but I don’t think Tottenham are thinking that right now.

“I think Tottenham are like we will have you back. Like if you’re now a free agent, we would like you back, please.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We think Spurs should be doing everything they should be to get Eriksen back to N17 this summer especially with the 30-year-old set to become a free agent. Indeed, his link to current Spurs players can help him settle in seamlessly, especially Harry Kane.

Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski aside, there is a clear lack of creativity in the Spurs squad with Kulusevski already the third-highest assist maker in the Spurs side and he joined on the final day of January.

Going back to Eriksen, we do not fully buy into the notion of him owing Brentford any loyalty ahead of his decision this summer.

Yes, Brentford offered him the opportunity, but their fortunes have dramatically changed with him in their side and some may argue he has already repaid the Bees by playing a huge role in their survival mission.
