Tottenham Hotspur reporter Alasdair Gold has been encouraged by Antonio Conte’s latest comments ahead of the north London Derby.

The Italian’s future has been under scrutiny ahead of the summer with the 52-year-old making it apparent how crucial the summer spending will be at Hotspur Way.

Do you think Spurs will snatch fourth spot?

And Tottenham’s season seemingly comes down to Thursday’s game against Arsenal with the Gunners able to secure a spot in the top four with a win in N17.

“We have just started this path because the others now are at the end of this path and they build a solid foundation and can add one or two players to improve their squad more,” he said on Tuesday.

And following the emergence of the quotes from the Spurs boss, Gold reacted on Twitter with the suggestion of a change in Conte’s language when talking about the club:

“Maybe it’s just me but I feel his language when speaking about Spurs has changed in the past week from distant to ‘we’, ‘my club’, ‘we need more time’. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but feels like a connection.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

There will have been a number of Spurs fans who will have been left concerned in the previous few months when Conte has been unwilling to commit to declaring his future at Spurs.

However, this certainly seems like a step in the right direction with Conte speaking as if he believes he is a part of the club ahead of what could be a huge summer.

Ultimately we still feel the Italian’s future lies in the hands of Daniel Levy and whether adequate funds are made available for Conte to mark his stamp on the squad.
