Newcastle United correspondent for The Telegraph, Luke Edwards, has been left furious by the leaked image of the Magpies’ alleged away kit for next season.
An image emerged earlier this week on Twitter and was relayed by the reliable website Footy Headlines showing what is a white and green away kit.
Are you happy with this away kit?
The Toon do not have an affiliation of white kits with green accents which has drawn an immediate connection to their ew Saudi Arabian-based owners.
And the alleged away kit has a real likeness to the Saudi Arabia home kit template which also features a white base with a green collar and green accents.
Amid the discussions over whether the Tyneside club are being used as a sports washing method for the Saudi state, Edwards let his opinion be known on Twitter:
“The Saudi third kit idea for #nufc was a stupid one and, quite honestly, the club deserve all the criticism coming their way over it. It was the manufacturer’s idea apparently but it’s been signed off by someone at the club,” Edwards tweeted.
TIF Thoughts on Edwards’ comments…
Edwards has been vocal amid the takeover which was concluded on Tyneside in the latter stages of 2021 so his comments on the alleged away kit do stay consistent with his previous arguments.
And it has to be said the images of this away kit are fairly damning. The Toon have previously played with green in their kits but not with a white base and green accents such as is being suggested with these leaks.
You do have to question if Newcastle fans are pleased with this? Not only does it raise the argument of sports washing but from a very basic point of view, it is also siding away with the club’s history.
