Tottenham Hotspur youngster Ryan Sessegnon may force Sergio Reguilon into a summer move away from north London.

This is according to the reliable journalist Alasdair Gold who has suggested Antonio Conte’s plans for the future lie with the 21-year-old.

Who do you think is better?

Sessegnon has made his return from a recent injury scare and played 78 minutes at Anfield against Liverpool in Saturday night’s hard-fought draw.

It was a game in which Sessegnon made a big impact on having provided the assist for Son Heung-min’s goal to give the away side the lead in the second half.

And Gold has suggested the £25.2m-rated Reguilon may suffer as a result of Conte’s faith in Sessegnon with reports hinting at a potential departure this summer for the Spaniard:

“So yeah, superb, really happy with Sess and time to push on now. If he can stay clear of injuries play these last three matches of the season for Spurs, get what could be a really crucial pre-season in under Conte. Next season, I think he makes that left wing-back spot his own.

“I think he does, because like I say I’m not entirely sure whether Sergio Reguilon will still be at the club or not, or whether that will be a move that happens and I think, Sess, he’s the chosen one, as it were.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We have been disappointed by Reguilon’s influence on the Spurs side in recent times after signing back in 2020 with just two goals and nine assists to show across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). Indeed, he was lauded as ‘phenomenal’ by Alasdair Gold back in 2020 but things haven’t gone to plan in the current campaign.

It must be said we are not entirely convinced Sessegnon is necessarily the answer, but it does seem as if Conte believes there is something he can make out of the 21-year-old.

And it must also be noted Sessegnon is still incredibly young and if he can stay injury-free he could stand a good chance of cementing a spot in the starting XI – albeit that may be a big ask with his injury record.
