Tottenham Hotspur will bring in a new right wing-back this summer’s transfer window, according to Alasdair Gold.

The Spurs correspondent was speaking on his YouTube channel after the north London club’s impressive draw against Liverpool on Saturday night.

Who should Spurs keep this summer?

Matt Doherty

Spurs failed to pick up all three points in their Champions League hunt, however, Emerson Royal impressed at Anfield amid reports of the Lilywhites looking to land a new right wing-back in the summer.

A number of options have been linked ahead of the summer with Djed Spence and, more recently, Denzel Dumfries both names believed to be on Fabio Paratici’s radar.

And with Matt Doherty’s season ended prematurely through injury, Gold stands by the expectation of Spurs bringing in a new player in that position this summer as he questioned Emerson’s attacking capability:

“But perhaps if there’s a way of training the attacking the side to him, perhaps he becomes a good option down that side. I just can’t see both him and Doherty staying for next season because there will be a new right wing-back come in.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

It was definitely an improved display from Emerson at Anfield, however, his biggest weakness is his attacking ability and that was not tested much on Saturday night.

The Brazilian has just one goal and one assist for Spurs this season and the 23-year-old still only managed to land half of his crosses successfully (via SofaScore).

Doherty did show some improvement before picking up the ligament injury, but we still think there is some room for improvement at right wing-back which could be made this summer.
