Image for Celtic: Journalist admits he was wrong about key summer signing

Journalist Craig Finn has admitted that Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart has won him over despite having “scepticism” when he arrived at Parkhead in the summer.

The former England number one joined on a three-year deal from Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the season in what could be called the twilight of his career.

Nevertheless, having played just 13 times in the two seasons prior to moving north, the 35-year-old has slotted seamlessly into Ange Postecoglou’s line-up where there was a need for a reliable goalkeeper.

The two-time Premier League winner with Manchester City has kept 18 clean sheets and conceded just 17 goals in 32 Scottish Premiership appearances this season and appears to have gained a new admirer who wasn’t always convinced.

Do you think Jota will be at Celtic next season?

I had scepticism when Joe was coming in. It was born out of his lack of game time and my unfounded preconceived notions of his character.

Delighted to have to eat my own words. Joe’s been brilliant on the park and a leader in the dressing room.

TIF Thoughts on Hart…

There is no question that Hart has helped laid the foundations at Celtic this season.

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

Former Bhoys centre-forward Chris Sutton said he has been a “massive boost” to the side.

I think that he’s brought a calmness and an authority at the back. You watched Celtic [last season], and with the greatest of respect to Barkas and Bain, every time they were in goal you thought Celtic are going to concede the goal. I don’t feel the same with Joe Hart and I think that’s an enormous deal. I think his experience has been important. I think he’s been an enormous signing and a massive plus for Celtic.”

Many were left in disbelief at Hart’s team of the season snub despite thwarting 74.6% of the shots he has faced but with his manager lauding his displays this term and insisting that he can be the no.1 for years it appears that he will have time to make the team of the season and garner further plaudits along the way.

  • Joe says:

The signing of Joe Hart was an absolute stroke of genius by Celtic.
At no point should anyone with the slightest knowledge about the game have carried the tiniest of doubts!
He brought massive confidence to a back line who were in dire need of it.
He played the captain’s role on more than one ocassion and his knowledge, experience and composure shone through very brightly!
Doubters only showed themselves up as ignorant and uneducated to the game.
