Former Celtic striker Scott McDonald believes that securing Cameron Carter-Vickers permanently will be Celtic’s “priority” this summer.

The on-loan Tottenham player has been described as ‘immense’ ex-Hoops centre-forward Chris Sutton this season and he has been a huge cog in the wheel for the club as they reclaimed the Scottish Premiership title.

Earlier this month journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed that the Celts boss Ange Postecoglou “would love to keep him at the club on a permanent basis” with Spurs thought to be looking £10m.

Should Celtic break their club record to buy CCV?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Now McDonald has echoed those sentiments and thinks the club will do their utmost to keep hold of the 24-year-old as they look to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

Speaking on the GegenPod Football podcast McDonald said:

(32:00) “Carter Vickers is probably the number one target for Celtic right now. To make sure that they have that solid partnership. I would even go as far as maybe even another centre back on top of that. I think you always when you want to improve your team you always look at the spine, don’t you.”

TIF Thoughts on Carter-Vickers and Celtic…

With Champions League football returning to Parkhead next season, the Bhoys will need a squad capable of competing at the highest level and Carter-Vickers has been one of their standout performers this term.

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

Only goalkeeper Joe Hart, captain Callum McGregor and centre-back partner Carl Starfelt have played more minutes than the American and he ranks fourth on WhoScored with a 7.36 average match rating amongst players to have appeared more than five times this season.

The Hoops have conceded just 19 goals in the 32 league games he has started this term and despite interest from the Premier League surely football in Europe’s top competition will persuade CCV to stay.
