Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed to This Is Futbol that Ange Postecoglou has done enough to deserve a new long-term deal at Celtic.

Postecoglou was introduced as Celtic manager in the summer ahead of the 2021/22 season and has excelled in his new role, winning the Scottish Premiership by four points – made all the more impressive as their rivals were unbeaten for the entire league campaign last term and won the title by 25 points.

Celtic completed a domestic double this season after winning the Scottish League Cup on top of the league title, so compared to last season’s failure to win a 10th league title in a row, the Australian manager has had a major impact.

After the impressive turnaround from Postecoglou this season, O’Rourke claimed that he deserves a new long-term contract with the club.

He said: “I think he’s done everything he’s been asked for and more, so he’ll be more than deserving of a long-termĀ contract.

“Celtic will be hoping to keep Postecoglou and to build on the success of this season over the next coming seasons, so I think it would make sense for them to try and tie him down.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

With some of the talent that Postecoglou brought in during the summer transfer window, Dermot Desmond has to give him credit due to the great impact that they have had, such as Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota, who have been arguably two of the club’s best players this term, having both placed in the top six in terms of average player rating (as per SofaScore).

Celtic have also achieved Champions League qualification after winning the SPFL, so the board may be keen to offer the Australian boss a new deal and then give him some funds to bring in new talent in the summer transfer window.
