Former Australia goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has hailed the signing of Joe Hart at Celtic this season.

The 35-year-old moved north of the border having played just 13 times in the two seasons prior at Burnley and Tottenham but he has rediscovered his form in Glasgow keeping 18 clean sheets and conceding just 19 goals in 34 Scottish Premiership appearances.

His performances have been welcome in Scotland after the struggles at no.1 for Celtic last season with Scott Bain and Vasilis Barkas both coming under fire between the sticks.

Chris Sutton labelled his acquisition a “masterstroke” (30:19) by the club and Schwarzer agrees admitting he was surprised to see the two-time Premier League winner with Manchester City excel at Celtic.

Speaking on the GegenPod Football podcast Schwarzer said:

(31:15) “I thought Joe Hart was very very good and it was a very shrewd signing and I was also like you I was a bit surprised I thought maybe his days had passed. However, he’s literally I was going to say rolled up his sleeves but he’s cut off his sleeves and he’s done incredibly well.”

TIF Thoughts on Joe Hart…

Celtic blogger Craig Finn recently revealed that Hart had won him over too after ‘scepticism’ when he first arrived at Parkhead but there is no denying the foundations Hart has laid at the club this season.

It was even a surprise to see the netminder left out of team of the season despite thwarting 73.5% of the shots he has faced and keeping a clean sheet in a league-high 52.9% of his games.

However, with Ange Postecoglou lauding his displays this term and insisting that he can be the no.1 for years to come it appears that he will have time to make the team of the season and further enhance his status at this stage of his career.
