Former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson has claimed how Alfredo Morelos has adapted since Giovanni van Bronckhorst came in to take the side.

The Colombian striker is currently out injured and will not appear between now and the end of the campaign having scored 16 goals in all competitions.

12 of those strikes have come since van Bronckhorst was appointed manager after Steven Gerrard’s exit and Ferguson has highlighted a key contributing factor to that uplift in form.

Should Rangers sell Morelos?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Ferguson said: “I just think since Gio’s come in I think you’ve seen a difference.

“I spoke to Gio at the legends’ game and [Roy] Makaay as well and it was interesting to say that they struck five kilos off him when they came in.

“And they said listen you’ve got all the attributes, we need to get you fitter and it’s an easy thing to say that oh you’re not fit enough but fair play to Morelos he’s went and worked hard and shifted it and I think you can see a difference.”

TIF Thoughts on Morelos and Rangers…

There is no denying the £11.7m-rated frontman’s change in fortunes since the move in the dugout and there is no wonder why journalist Pete O’Rourke has insisted that tying the 25-year-old down will be the manager’s “priority” this summer.

His £33k-per-week contract expires at the end of next season but with 164 goal contributions in 224 appearances for the Gers surely the club will want to keep him around.

He has shown his commitment to the side to work on his game and at 25 he still has plenty to offer at the Light Blues.
