Journalist Tom English has claimed that Connor Goldson ‘looks certain’ to leave Rangers in the summer when his contract expires.

Goldson joined Rangers in the Scottish Premiership from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018, and he has been a mainstay in the side since, featuring 223 times in all competitions whilst contributing with 20 goals along the way.

The English defender’s contract is set to expire at the end of the month, and there have been no reports stating that he is set to sign a new deal with the club.

With no progression in terms of Goldson agreeing a deal to stay at the club, English claimed whilst writing on his column for the BBC that Goldson is almost certainly leaving at the end of the season.

He wrote (via Ibrox News): “What lies ahead? McGregor, you have to imagine, is about to retire.

“Connor Goldson, it looks certain, is about to leave. Loan players will return to their parent clubs. Some stellar names are in the final year of their contract and might be sold. Ahead of the Champions League qualifiers and the beginning of a new domestic season, there will be comings and goings.

“That’s for the weeks ahead. Right now, they could do with a rest. After a marathon season, they’ve earned a lie-down before rising up and going again.”

TIF Thoughts on English’s comments…

Goldson, who was recently labelled ‘brilliant’ by Ally McCoist, has been one of the standout performers for Rangers this season. In the Scottish Premiership, he had the highest amount of accurate passes per game (62.1), made the most clearances per game (3.4) and made the most accurate passes per game (5.1), as per SofaScore.

If Goldson was to depart the club in the summer on a free transfer, it would be bad news for Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the Dutch manager would have to seek a suitable replacement for a man who has dominated the stats defensively for his side without even receiving a fee for the centre-back.
