Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has given a huge hint at what the future might hold for him as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

Davis is currently enduring his second permanent spell with Rangers, and over his time at Ibrox, he has notched an impressive 343 appearances for his side in all competitions, scoring 25 goals and registering 70 assists.

This season, Davis has been somewhat out of favour and struggled with injuries, but in a recent Scottish Premiership fixture, he was described as “fantastic” by ex-Gers forward Rory Loy, whilst speaking on BBC Sportsound (via Ibrox News).

Speaking prior to Rangers’ Europa League final defeat, Davis was quoted as saying he would love to be a part of the club in the future.

He said (via Scottish Daily Express): “I’d love to be a part of this club moving forward, it’s a huge club. I’ve spent a lot of my career here, enjoyed every moment of it, and hopefully there’s more to come.”

TIF Thoughts on Steven Davis’ comments…

Davis has featured sporadically this season for Rangers, making just 18 appearances in the SPFL – and just 13 of those have been from the start. However, he started in four of the last five games in the Scottish Premiership.

It may be a difficult decision for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to make because his experience may be invaluable, but if Davis’ game time is going to be further decreased next season, it may not be the best idea to offer him a new deal.

However, his comments state that he wishes to be a part of the club moving forward, so this could be an indication that he may take a background role, rather than an important playing role.
