Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes Glasgow Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s priority this summer will be keeping Alfredo Morelos at the club.

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

£11.7m-valued Morelos is currently out injured and will not appear between now and the end of the campaign. The Colombia international has been regularly linked with a move away from Ibrox and, at the end of the season, he will have just one year left on his contract.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke suggested keeping Morelos could top van Bronckhorst’s to-do list this summer. He said, “Morelos will probably be the priority because he’s probably the one who’s going to get you the biggest fee if he is to be sold right now. And if he was to sign a new contract, that would obviously enhance his price tag as well going forwards for Rangers.

“So, I think Morelos probably will be the priority if they were to keep anybody right now because he is the out and out goalscorer in that team for Rangers.”

TIF Thoughts on Morelos

Morelos has been a wonderful servant for the Gers since he made the move to Scotland from HJK Helsinki in 2017. During his now five-year spell at Ibrox, the 25-year-old has scored 113 goals in 224 games, even helping the club to their 55th Scottish Premiership title last year, their first in a decade.

Will Morelos leave this summer?

However, it seems likely he will move on at some point. He has made it clear in the past that he wants to play in a more prestigious and competitive league and, given his contract status, this summer surely represents Rangers’ last chance to sell him for a good fee. As good as he is, it would be negligent not to listen to offers, and any sum can be put directly towards bringing in a solid replacement.
