Kris Commons has claimed that Connor Goldson has almost certainly agreed to move on from the club in the summer transfer window.

Connor Goldson was heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox in the January transfer window, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, he may be set for a move away from the club in the summer window.

The English defender signed for Rangers in the Scottish Premiership from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2018, and he has been a mainstay in the side since, he has made 220 appearances in all competitions in the four seasons that he has been at the club.

Despite Goldson featuring heavily for The Gers since his introduction at the club Commons told The Daily Mail via Ibrox News that the English defender may be set to move on in the summer.

“It’s all gone quiet with regards to his future and I strongly suspect there’s now an acceptance that he will be moving on as a free agent in the summer.

“The fact that he has allowed his contract to run down this far into the season tells me one thing – he’s almost certainly got something sorted elsewhere. Some people might think the incentive of Champions League football would convince him to stay, but I disagree. It looks to me like his mind is already made up.

“It’s a financial decision more than anything else. Goldson is now 29 years old. He probably feels like he has one big contract left in him. You can’t hold that against him because he has been a terrific servant to Rangers from the moment he walked through the door in 2018. He’s now coming towards the end of his fourth season at Ibrox and he has played over 50 games in every campaign,” Commons said.

TIF Thoughts on Kris Commons’ comments…

Goldson has been vital for Rangers at the back this season, in the SPFL he has the fifth-highest average player rating at the club (7.17), he has the most amount of accurate passes on average per game (60.8) and he has the most amount of interceptions on average per game (3.5), as per Sofascore.

It would be a huge loss for Giovanni van Bronckhorst if Goldson was to leave the club in the summer, because it may take a big investment to replace him and find a suitable player who can produce the same type of stats.
