Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed Albian Ajeti does not have a future at Celtic due to his lack of involvement this season.

Ajeti has been out of favour this season for Celtic, having featured just 17 times across all competitions, including just seven appearances in the Scottish Premiership – and only three of those have been from the start.

The Swiss striker signed for Celtic from West Ham United in 2020 after his time in the Premier League did not go to plan. He failed to score a single goal in the season that he was with the Hammers, but still earned himself a £5m move to Parkhead.

With the lack of involvement for Ajeti this season, O’Rourke spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he does not have a future at the club.

He said: “I don’t think there’s any real future for him at Celtic right now. He’s not going to get much of a look in with Kyogo, Maeda, and Giakoumakis all up there contesting for places in the starting lineup as well.

“It just hasn’t worked out for Ajeti, whether that’s through form and fitness or everything else, I think it’s probably best for both parties to move on.”

Do you think Ajeti will leave in the summer?

TIF Thoughts on Ajeti’s comments…

Frank McAvennie is not a fan of the striker, as he slammed Ajeti earlier this year and the fact he’s ‘taking money from the club’ despite his poor performances.

Ajeti has proven that he can score goals during his time for FC Basel, netting 43 times and chipping in with 21 assists across 96 appearances in all competitions in Switzerland.

The two moves since he left Basel have not quite worked out for Ajeti, so it may take a move elsewhere – potentially back to his home country – to revisit that goalscoring form he once had.

Forwards Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Giorgos Giakoumakis were all brought into Celtic by Ange Postecoglou in the summer, so this was a big part of the reason behind the lack of involvement for Ajeti and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is shown the door in the summer.
