Celtic all but secured the league title on Saturday with victory over Hearts at Celtic Park, Rangers now need a small miracle should they usurp the Hoops to retain the title.
Ellis Simms fired the visitors ahead after three minutes to cast some doubt over the Celtic supporters early on. However, Ange Postecoglou’s side responded how you’d imagine champions would. Daizen Maeda and Kyogo Furuhashi had them ahead before the interval.
Will Celtic do well in Europe next season?
The second half saw the Hoops strut to victory as Matt O’Riley and Giorgos Giakoumakis found the back of the net to make it 4-1 and a comfortable three points.
BBC radio man Dominik Diamond was quick to praise Matt O’Riley for his performance, going on Twitter to claim: “That goal just nudges Matt O’ Riley ahead of CalMac as MOTM today in my book. Celtic legend in the making if he carries on like this. #CELHEA #CelticFC.”
TIF thoughts on the comments…
He certainly had a very good game against Hearts, getting himself on the scoresheet while having 70 touches and winning eight duels in the 77 minutes he played, so he was clearly instrumental in the middle for Postecoglou’s men.
The result means that Celtic can no longer be overtaken by Rangers on points, worst case scenario for the Hoops is the two teams finishing level on points. However, Celtic have a 22 goal swing in goal difference at the moment, so with two games left, the title is surely theirs.
