Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

24-year-old Japan international Maeda initially made the move on loan from Yokohoma F. Marinos during the January transfer window, and has been a big hit so far at Celtic Park. He netted eight goals in 22 games across all competitions, including five in 11 league outings, and the Glasgow outfit have now made the decision to make his switch permanent.

Writing on Twitter, McGinlay was clearly happy with the news. He said: “Delighted that Daizen Maeda is now officially a permanent Celtic player. His contributions last season were vital in us winning the league, and he’s only going to get better. Love this guy.”

TIF Thoughts on Maeda…

Having previously managed him in the J-League, Ange Postecoglou had prior knowledge of Maeda before taking him to the Scottish Premiership, and their working relationship has transitioned perfectly to football at Celtic Park.

He has proven to be a clever acquisition as one of several players from Japan who made an impact this term for Celtic. Kyogo Furuhashi ended up as the division’s second-highest goalscorer, while Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi also had an influence on the side. Japan remains a largely untapped market in the UK, and Postecoglou’s experience in the country gives Celtic a big advantage as they look to capture top talents.
