Celtic podcaster Ryan McGinlay believes Carl Starfelt would be an excellent vice-captain for the Bhoys in the future following his display in the Old Firm derby.

Ange Postecoglou’s men drew 1-1 at Celtic Park on Sunday as they continue their march towards the league title. They now need just four points from their remaining three matches to confirm their status as champions.

Interesting first question, how many Celtic fans were inside Ibrox?

Starfelt started at the heart of the back four and put in a fantastic display, winning 100% of his ground duels and earning a SofaScore match rating of 7.4 – the joint-highest amongst his teammates. Taking to Twitter, McGinlay showered the Swede with praise, writing: “Carl has played a massive part in winning us back the league title. I’d love to see him as a vice-captain at some point.”

TIF Thoughts on Starfelt…

The 26-year-old has been a rock at the heart of the back four. He has already made 46 appearances for the club in all competitions since signing from Rubin Kazan last summer, including 31 in the Premiership, helping Celtic concede just 20 goals in the competition so far this term.

Could Starfelt be vice-captain?

Celtic paid £4.3m to the Russian side to capture his services, which could be deemed a considerable fee for the Hoops. However, it looks to be a bargain so far, and he could well be someone the Bhoys will rely on for years to come. A vice-captain has a big role to play in any side, especially one with such big expectations as Celtic, but Starfelt could be the man to shoulder the burden if he can continue in this vein of form.
