Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Ange Postecoglou deserves a new long-term contract at Celtic after the job he has done this season.

Postecoglou was introduced league summer as Celtic boss on the back of a terrible Scottish Premiership campaign last season, after they finished 25 points behind rivals Rangers, and failed to win their 10th league title in a row.

However, the introduction of the Australian manager has brought a new lease of life to Celtic, he has won the domestic double, the league title and the Scottish League cup, and there have been reports stating that he is set to be awarded a new contract that will extend his stay at Parkhead.

After the impressive first season that Postecoglou has had in charge of Celtic, O’Rourke has claimed to GiveMeSport that he fully deserves a new contract.

Celtic have, over the last few seasons, just done a 12-month rolling contract. It’s worked before with the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon. It will be interesting to see if they do change their stance and Postecoglou would be fully deserving of a long-term contract.

“He’s come in and probably exceeded the expectations of most Celtic fans. He’s won the League Cup and the league after that massive gap that there was between Celtic and Rangers last year. He’s got them back into the Champions League as well,” O’Rourke said.

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Postecoglou has done a tremendous job since taking over as Celtic boss, he made some signings that have had a massive impact on the club, such as Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi, Georgios Giakoumakis, and Jota, who are the club’s four top scorers in the Scottish Premiership.

After the Australian’s impressive signings in the summer, he may be awarded further funds in the summer because he can now be trusted, and with his double-winning campaign, he may be offered a new long-term contract.
