Journalist Josh Holland has claimed that Ruben Neves has got to move on from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window.

Neves has been heavily linked with a move away from Wolves throughout the entire season, with La Liga giants Barcelona the latest concerned in attempting to lure the Portuguese midfielder away from the Premier League in the summer.

The Portuguese midfielder has been a mainstay in the Wolves side since he joined the club in 2017 from FC Porto, making 211 appearances across all competitions whilst scoring 24 goals and registering 11 assists.

With the reports of an exit away from Molineux for Neves in the summer, Holland has claimed to GiveMeSport that it is time for the 25-year-old to move on.

He said: “If you lose Neves with no European football, Bruno Lage could be in a bit of a predicament because if they sell Neves with no European football, are they going to get back? I know we spoke about players last year and the ambition of it, but I think he’s got to move. I think I saw his agent was at lunch with people from Barcelona.”

TIF Thoughts on Holland’s comments…

Neves has been the standout performer for Wolves this season. In the Premier League, he has the highest average player rating (7.13), the highest amount of accurate passes per game (49.3), and the most accurate long balls on average (5.9), as per SofaScore.

As such a dominant figure in terms of stats, Bruno Lage may look to do everything in his power to keep his star man at the club, but with no European football next season, it may be tricky to keep the Portuguese midfielder at the club.

With Wolves not featuring in any European competitions next season, if they lose Neves, it could be difficult to see them getting back into Europe unless they use any Neves money wisely to invest in the squad.
