ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United have spoken with Bologna’s sporting director to speak on ‘two or three’ possible transfers.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the Hammers have an interest in Bologna’s Aaron Hickey, with a view to potentially signing him in the summer.

It seems that this interest is concrete, and the club also have their eye on a number of players who are currently playing for Bologna.

While talking about the situation on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex suggested that Hickey, a ‘Dutch midfielder’, and possibly another player have tempted the Premier League outfit into some recent talks with Bologna’s sporting director Riccardo Bigon.

He said: “[Hickey] fits the age criteria. Scottish international, has done brilliantly out there alongside Marko Arnautovic. But Arsenal are also interested in him.

“Now, we met with Bologna’s sporting director to discuss him [Hickey] and about two or three other players, including a midfielder – a Dutch midfielder, I think.

“So we met him for a couple of discussions there. But it seems like Arsenal at the moment are in pole position.”

It’s safe to say that the left-back has never been short of praise in the past, as his former manager at Hearts, Daniel Stendel called him ‘an extraordinary talent’ back in August 2020.

As Ex makes clear, Arsenal are also linked with Hickey and fans may be disappointed to hear that the Gunners reportedly seem to be close to wrapping up that deal.

If that move doesn’t come off for West Ham, the talks may not have been an entire waste of time, though. Although Ex does not name him, one of the other options alluded to may well be Jerdy Schouten – who is the only Dutch midfielder currently playing for the club.

West Ham United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with Felipe Anderson

While details remain a little vague for now, the fact that West Ham have already been in contact with Bologna’s sporting director suggests that interest in at least one player from the Serie A club is very real.
