Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes that Jesse Lingard would be interested in a return to West Ham United.

The 29-year-old is coming into the final weeks of his Manchester United contract, and having spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the Hammers, the club are thought to be interested in bringing Lingard to east London permanently.

The Irons’ attempts to land the attacking midfielder at the start of the campaign were unsuccessful and they tried again in the recent January window, but no deal materialised.

However, with the player now effectively a free agent, O’Rourke is certain that both parties would be keen on a reunion, and feels the 32-cap England international would be a great signing for David Moyes’ team.

He told GiveMeSport: “I’m sure Jesse Lingard would be interested in going back to West Ham. He knows the players and has worked under the coaching staff already.

“As David Moyes has worked previously with Jesse Lingard, he knows what he can bring to the table as well.

“I think, for everybody connected, this could be a good move and something that would definitely improve West Ham for next season.”

TIF Thoughts on Lingard to West Ham…

Last year, the £18m-rated attacker, who was described as ‘amazing’ by Rio Ferdinand last season, scored nine goals and made five assists in 16 appearances while on loan in the capital, and his career resurgence saw him return to the England national team setup for the first time in almost two years.

The Mirror reported that Roma, Juventus and Milan are also plotting a potential swoop, and could be better equipped to meet the £150k-per-week wage demands that Lingard is understood to be seeking, which may well derail the east Londoners’ chances.

With the World Cup approaching at the end of the year, he could certainly boost his chances of getting on the plane by rediscovering his form, but the Rush Green executives aren’t the only ones interested.
