With the season now over for West Ham United after the final matchday of the Premier League campaign, attentions begin to turn to the end-of-season awards. Alan Shearer, who names a Team of the Week for the Premier League’s website, recently named his Team of the Season.

After West Ham secured European football, it’s no surprise to see Shearer name Declan Rice in his XI, however, he did make an honourable mention for Jarrod Bowen, who was pipped by Son Heung-min, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to a place in the front three.

When talking about Bowen, the former England striker claimed: “It’s been really tough, because I really wanted to put Jarrod Bowen in the team because of his goals and his assists.

“He has to be, in my opinion, in the England squad this summer, but I can’t even fit him in the front three in this team because the three players have just been absolutely superb.”

West Ham United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with Felipe Anderson

It’s no surprise he wants to mention Bowen, who has been in formidable form for the Hammers this season. He managed to find the back of the net 18 times while assisting 13 goals for his teammates in the 51 outings he had.

Such form has led to him securing a maiden call-up to the national side, so Shearer’s wishes appear to have been granted by Gareth Southgate – and may hint that Bowen is well in the running for a place in the World Cup squad.

Although he’s been very good, understandably, Shearer couldn’t justify picking him over the three he selected, but the fact he singled him out as a close fourth shows how much he rates him, too.
