According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte will be looking to sign Tomas Soucek if he becomes available this summer.

With three games of the Premier League season left, Tottenham remain in with a chance of qualifying for the Champions League. Some at the club, though, are already planning ahead for the next campaign, and there should be plenty of transfer business conducted this summer.

Spurs had been linked with a move for Paulo Dybala, but he appears to be on the way to Inter Milan. As an alternative, Soucek has been mentioned and, speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke believes Conte will be after the Czech Republic international should the opportunity arise. He said, “If he was to become available, I’m sure he’s somebody that Conte will be looking at because he’s got that extra bonus of not needing time to adapt to the Premier League. He can come straight into that team.

“I’m sure a number of Premier League clubs would probably show an interest in Tomas Soucek if those contract talks with West Ham sort of collapse and it looks like he might have to be moved on.”

TIF Thoughts on Soucek

Since making the move to West Ham from Slavia Prague, Soucek has been a mainstay in the starting XI as the Hammers have moved up the table. In 103 games, he has found the back of the net 19 times, and has become a strong presence both defensively and offensively.

Valued at £40.5m, there have been reports he could be on the market for £40m this summer. Nowadays, that is a competitive price, especially as he plays for a local rival. It is still a considerable amount of money for Spurs to spend, though – they have only parted with more for one player, Tanguy Ndombele. Given how that deal turned out, the Lilywhites must make sure Soucek is the right man for Conte’s side.
