Haaland has now completed his move to Manchester City on a deal until 2027. Last summer, City were eager to sign Kane but, after a bid was rejected by Daniel Levy, the England captain remained at Spurs.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist shared his disappointment for the 28-year-old, and urged Levy to back Antonio Conte and invest in the squad this summer. He said, “Gutted for him. I really hope for Spurs and Harry Kane in particular that Conte gets the opportunity to strengthen, I really do. If they support Conte, this is a real opportunity for Spurs to close the gap between the top two and themselves.

“If they get behind Conte, who I think is top class, in the market, giving him the opportunity to bring two or three in… I’d like to see Harry Kane stay there and win something, I’d love it.”

TIF Thoughts on Kane’s future

It seemed Kane was on the verge of a departure from Spurs when City came calling, with him even handing in a transfer request. However, in the end, Levy’s demands were too high and the Premier League champions decided against making another move.

In January, Spurs signed Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, both of whom have contributed to the club’s revived push for the Champions League. It remains to be seen whether Spurs finish in the top four this term, but if they can hold on to their best players and add reinforcements where required, there is no reason why the future could not be brighter.
