Tottenham Hotspur will make an approach for Djed Spence this summer regardless of how the Championship play-off final pans out.

That is according to Alasdair Gold, who has been speaking on his YouTube channel about Spurs’ hopes of adding a right wing-back to their squad this summer.

Spurs are one of the clubs who have been linked with potentially making a move for Spence after what has been an impressive season on loan from Middlesbrough with Nottingham Forest.

And it is apparent it is not only the north London club who are eyeing the 21-year-old ahead of the summer, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich also linked.

However, regardless of whether Forest gain promotion, Gold believes the Lilywhites will make an approach to the Teessiders this summer to seek out the availability of the wing-back.

He said: “Djed Spence, obviously on loan at Forest at the moment. If Forest don’t go up, either way, I think Spurs will make a move for Djed Spence.

“But if Forest go up, then Forest maybe hold the cards because they have extra money and he may want to continue his journey there.

“But if Forest don’t go up, I don’t think they’ll have the money probably to make his deal permanent from Middlesbrough and I think he’ll maybe be more willing for a Premier League move. So he’ll be a good one.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

It is thought Steve Cooper’s side will make a move for their on-loan wing-back this summer if they manage to secure a spot in the top flight, with the 21-year-old valued at around £20m.

Spence, who was hailed as ‘incredible’ by Alan Hutton, has provided five assists in the Championship this season, but it is in the FA Cup where the youngster has caught the attention of many.

It would certainly be a big jump up from playing outside of the Premier League to the Champions League, however, with Matt Doherty’s improved form, Spence could certainly prove a worthy understudy to the Irishman.
