Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur may try and get N’Golo Kante from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

Spurs are reportedly tracking the progress of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Senegalese having previously played in the Premier League with Everton. Gueye has not featured heavily for PSG this season, making 25 appearances in Ligue 1, with just 18 of those being starts.

Meanwhile, Kante is about to enter the final year of his contract, and Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in making him his first summer signing at Manchester United.

Whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Crook claimed that Spurs could do better than Gueye – and they would probably try and get Kante from Chelsea in the summer.

He said: “He was ok at Everton, but no more than that. He’s not always guaranteed a place at Paris Saint-Germain, so I think they could probably do better, but it’s such a key area. I mean, if they think they can get N’Golo Kante out of Chelsea, they would probably try, but history between those two clubs makes it impossible.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Kante has arguably had a season below his usual standards. In the Premier League for Chelsea, he is ranked eighth in terms of average player rating (7.13), makes the 10th-highest amount of accurate passes per game (40.9), and makes the sixth-most interceptions per game (1), as per SofaScore.

Although Kante may not have performed to his high standards this season, at the end of the last campaign, he was dubbed as ‘the best player in the world’ by former Spurs and Chelsea man William Gallas, so if Tottenham were able to bring him into the club, it would undoubtedly be a good signing.

Spurs currently sit in fourth place in the Premier League and a draw in their last game against Norwich will almost certainly be enough to secure Champions League qualification, so getting Kante in the door would be great in terms of adding experience in the competition – even if Crook believes it is virtually impossible.
