Tottenham Hotspur have identified Benfica striker Darwin Nunez as a possible summer target for Antonio Conte.

The Uruguayan striker has had a sensational campaign for the Portuguese outfit and Alasdair Gold reported the 22-year-old as an option as he spoke on his YouTube channel.

Should a new striker be a priority this summer?

Nunez has become one of the hottest properties around Europe ahead of the summer, with a long list of Premier League clubs believed to be eyeing him as a transfer target.

It has been a fruitful campaign for the striker, who has returned 34 goals from his 41 appearances across all competitions, which includes 26 in his 28 league games (via Transfermarkt).

With Harry Kane still the only senior striker in Conte’s Tottenham squad, Gold listed a number of names Spurs will be exploring this summer in the market, including the hot prospect.

He said: “Darwin Nunez, of course, I think he’s got a great goal return. I wrote that down, 34 goals in 41 matches for Benfica.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

Nunez, who has been described as ‘world class’, has certainly become one to watch this summer, with a number of English clubs believed to be interested, so any interest from Spurs will likely be rivalled by teams who can offer him first-team football.

And the 22-year-old proved he could do it against the Premier League elite as he netted twice across two games in the Champions League against Liverpool.

His displays against the Reds clearly caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp, who waxed lyrical about him following their meeting in Portugal earlier this year, saying: “He was physically strong, quick, was calm around his finish. Good, really good. I always say in these situations if he is healthy, it’s a big career ahead of him,” said the Liverpool boss.

However, his price tag is believed to sit at around £103m, which could be a stumbling block.
