Journalist Paul Brown has highlighted that Lautaro Martinez may well sign for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer due to his relationship with Antonio Conte.

Martinez has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs in the summer, but they face fierce competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal, who have also shown interest in him. However, his contract is not set to expire until 2026, and the Argentinian is reportedly happy at the club.

The 24-year-old striker has been in emphatic form for Inter this season in Serie A, scoring an impressive 21 goals in 34 league games for his side.

With the news that Spurs have been linked with Martinez, Brown spoke to GiveMeSport and highlighted that he had a good relationship with Conte during their time at Inter together, so this could be a deciding factor in the striker’s future.

Asked if Tottenham could win the race for his signature, he said: “I don’t see why not. He seemed to enjoy playing for Conte when Conte was in Italy. They had quite a good relationship, as far as I’m aware.

“While he’s quite a hard taskmaster, there’s also a bit of fun about him as well. He’s got a sort of cheeky glint in his eye and he does do things in training that make players laugh. He’s kind of a friend as well at times.”

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s comments…

Although Brown suggests that Conte and Martinez have a good relationship, there was a time when the pair had a bit of a bust-up during a match in Italy, which ended up being resolved by the pair having a boxing match on the training ground.

Martinez has been in superb form for Inter this season in Serie A, he is his side’s top scorer with 21 goals and has the best scoring frequency for his side (every 105 mins), while he also registers the most shots on average per game (3.3), as per SofaScore.

With the impressive form of the Argentinian forward, it would be a great addition to Conte’s squad if he could lure him in during the summer, and with it looking likely that Spurs will be in the Champions League next season, this could be huge in terms of getting the deal over the line.
