Spurs brought in Gollini on loan from Atalanta, much like Cristian Romero last summer, with perhaps the idea of him challenging Hugo Lloris, who at the time was in the final 12 months of his contract, but the Frenchman has now signed an extension.
Should Spurs sign Gollini permanently?
Gollini has certainly not lived up to expectation and has not been able to push the French number one closely at all featuring just 10 times across all competitions with just two of them coming under current manager Antonio Conte.
However, after being afforded very few minutes under Conte, he appears to have taken that personally and is looking very impressive in training as he’s posted a video on his Instagram of some very smart saves from the likes of Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
TIF Thoughts on Gollini…
The fact that there are just three games left for Spurs to play this season and Gollini hasn’t got off the bench since January against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup, shows that he’s still fully buying into the club and giving his all behind the scenes which in turn, help ensure Lloris doesn’t drop his own standards.
It was reported when Gollini joined the club last summer that Spurs had an option to buy permanently for £13 million, but with links to the likes of Jordan Pickford and soon to be free agent Sam Johnstone, it appears that will not be happening this upcoming transfer window.
