Podcaster Ben Daniel has claimed that Sergio Reguilon leaving Spurs in the summer would not be the worst thing due to failing to nail down a spot in the starting XI.

Sergio Reguilon signed for Tottenham Hotspur from Real Madrid for £27 million in 2020 and has gone on to make an impressive 67 appearances since. He has made 25 appearances in the Premier League this term, but has started just 22 out of Spurs’ 34 league games, and was an unused substitute in their last time out.

Reguilon has been linked with a move away from Spurs ahead of the summer transfer window as Barcelona have reportedly shown their interest in his services.

With the news that Barcelona are interested in bringing Reguilon to the club, Ben Daniel spoke on the WeAreTottenham TV YouTube Channel and highlighted that he wouldn’t lose any sleep if the Spanish giants did come in for him.

(4;10) “Tottenham man Sergio Reguilon is one of the left-backs Barcelona like and could make a move for him in the summer. Daniel said via Gabriel Sands.

(4;24) “I for one wouldn’t lose any sleep if Barcelona come in for Reguilon in the summer, I think he has had enough time in a Spurs shirt now to really knuckle down that left-wing back spot and I don’t think he has done that unfortunately, ” Daniel said.

TIF Thoughts on Ben Daniel’s comments…

Sergio Reguilon has had a mediocre season for Spurs this season in terms 0f stats in the Premier League, as he is ranked 12th in terms of highest average rating per game (6.92), he is ranked 14th on the highest amount of accurate passes per game (24.3) and is ranked 9th in terms of the most amount of clearances on average per game (1.6), as per Sofascore.

With Spurs looking to push on and progress as a club, if a big offer comes in for Reguilon, Antonio Conte may be inclined to accept to money, and then look to use the funds and invest in other areas of the pitch. It has been claimed that the Spurs boss would green-light an exit for the defender and Ryan Sessegnon has been preferred at times, so it certainly wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him depart this summer.
