Journalist Rob Guest has mooted Tottenham Hotspur to make a possible move this summer for attacker Memphis Depay.

In an article for, the writer explained that a new striker should be a ‘transfer priority’ for Fabio Paratici and Tottenham this summer.

He explained that this is due to questions remaining over Harry Kane’s future, but also because the club ought to have an alternative option to the England captain regardless.

With that in mind, he tipped the Barcelona man as an option because he has recently slipped down the pecking order in Spain, and would also suit Spurs as he can play centrally or on the wing.

Guest wrote: “Depay could be on his way from Barcelona very soon despite only arriving at the Camp Nou 12 months ago on a free transfer. Slipping down the pecking order under Xavi, Barca would be able to make an instant profit on the Dutchman if they decide to part with him.

“Linked with Tottenham in the past, the striker has demonstrated this campaign that he knows where the back of the net is after registering 11 goals in 24 La Liga games. Also an option to play on the left flank as well as through the middle, his versatility would certainly benefit Tottenham.

According to Spanish media, Spurs are currently ‘topping the list of the English clubs that are interested in signing him, though the like of AC Milan, Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli have the player in their sights too.

Despite having 12 goals and two assists to his name this season, it seems as though Xavi isn’t too keen on the player right now as he has limited his involvement in recent weeks.
