Journalist Pete O’Rourke believes Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will back manager Antonio Conte even more if they seal Champions League football for next season.

Conte has led Spurs to the brink of the top-four after reinforcing their north London derby victory with a win over Burnley last weekend to move ahead of Arsenal before they were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle on Monday.

He arrived with the side in ninth place in the league after five successive defeats and looks intent on sealing a return to Europe’s top table.

Have you been impressed by Conte's behaviour with Spurs so far?

The Whites only need a draw at basement club Norwich on the final day to secure a top-four finish and O’Rourke has hinted at the Italian’s transfer plan heading into next season with Champions League football in mind.

Speaking to This is Futbol, he said:

“There’s other areas of squad that he wants to improve on as well. Maybe both wingback positions, a centre-half, a midfielder and probably a striking cover for Harry Kane are Antonio Conte’s priorities right now.

“No guarantee that he’ll get all those signings, but I think Daniel Levy especially if Spurs get this Champions League place will make funds available for him to make signings.”

TIF Thoughts on Conte and Spurs…

There is no denying the calibre of manager that the 52-year-old is and he really could take Tottenham all the way with the right backing so Levy would be wise to invest heavily in the squad.

The 2016/17 Premier League title-winning coach at Chelsea arrived at Spurs back in November on an 18-month deal and after dismissing ‘fake’ links between him and the PSG job it seems as if the harmony between the club and coach is only getting stronger.

Do you think Conte will be backed financially?

He has already started to put his stamp on the side letting five players go and bringing in two players, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski and one can only imagine the team they would become should he be using the players he wants.

It certainly makes for exciting times at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
