TalkSport pundit Simon Jordan believes that Antonio Conte can make Tottenham Hotspur compete with the Premier League’s top two – but only if backed by the board.

Conte arrived with the side in ninth place in the league after five successive defeats, but steered them to a top-four finish and a return to Champions League football.

With 71 points, they finished 21 behind Liverpool and 22 off back-to-back champions Manchester City, but having won the title before at Chelsea, Jordan is adamant that the Italian manager can bring Spurs closer to the runaway duo with the required financial support.

Do you think Conte will be backed financially?

Speaking on TalkSport (via Twitter), the former Crystal Palace chairman hailed the 52-year-old as one of the world’s best managers alongside Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

He said: “Conte is of the same calibre. They’ve all played catch-up with one another, and Klopp caught Guardiola, and Conte can catch both of them. He’s got the juice.

“If Tottenham want to chase Liverpool and Man City – if they really want to chase them – they’re going to have to match them pound for pound. If they do, Conte will deliver them a team that will knock on the door. He’s as good a manager as those guys are.”

TIF Thoughts on Conte and Spurs…

There is no denying how talented a coach Conte is and he will almost certainly put Spurs in the running for silverware during his tenure.

Whether that is a Premier League title remains to be seen, but with world-class stars like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min already at his disposal, adding to the squad would be sure to enhance their chances.

With those two turning 29 and 30 respectively before the start of next season, now does seem the right time for Daniel Levy to invest heavily.

Conte marked his territory in January by letting five players go and bringing in Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski, who have enjoyed fine starts to their Spurs careers.

One can only imagine the team they would become should the boss be allowed to use the players he wants, and it certainly makes for exciting times in the white half of north London.
