Tottenham Hotspur’s first team picked up a very important win on the weekend to keep their dreams of finishing in the top four alive, but yesterday afternoon it was the turn of their under 23s to take to the field as they faced off against Brighton.
Will Spurs get top 4?
Antonio Conte’s side also faced Brighton a few weeks ago but were beaten 1-0 at home by the Seagulls after failing to register a single shot on target and the under 23s didn’t have much more luck as they ground out a 0-0 draw.
However, Gold admitted during the game that there was a bright spark to the game in the form of Alfie Devine, with Gold heaping praise on the youngster claiming:
‘Fascinating to watch Alfie Devine. He might be only 17 but he’s an organiser. He pops up one minute in support of Scarlett and the next in a deep-lying anchorman role, all the while talking to everyone around him, telling them to push up or hold back.’
TIF Thoughts on Devine…
A lot of Spurs fans will likely already be familiar with the name Alfie Devine despite the midfielder only joining the academy in 2020 from Wigan Athletic as he became the club’s youngest ever goalscorer and player to make a first-team appearance when he netted in the FA Cup against Marine.
However, he is now back making the grade with the under 23s at the tender age of just 17 but if he continues to show these great leadership qualities in a team that will have plenty of players older than him, the. it may not be long until he becomes a more regular face thin the first team.
