Southampton: Journalist drops claim on Sasa Kalajdzic transfer links

|

Journalist Ryan Taylor has claimed that Sasa Kalajdzic is someone who Southampton have looked at ahead of the summer transfer window.

Southampton are reportedly interested in bringing Kalajdzic to St Mary’s in the summer from VFB Stuttgart, with Armando Broja returning to his parent club after spending the season on loan with the Saints.

Kalajdzic has been in impressive form in the second half of the season for Stuttgart in the German Bundesliga after missing the majority of the first half due to injury. He netted six times and registered one assist in the 15 league games that he featured in.

Amid the links of a transfer to Southampton for Kalajdzic, Taylor claimed to GiveMeSport that he is someone who the Saints have indeed looked at.

He said: “Sasa Kalajdzic at Stuttgart is one they’ve sort of looked at, but it looks like Bayern Munich are going to sign him now; there’s other big clubs interested in him.

“They’ve shown they can shop smartly as well; they’ve always sort of had an eye for a good deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

Kalajdzic has been impressive for Stuttgart in the second half of the season, and despite his injury in the first half of the campaign, he was still the club’s top scorer in the Bundesliga with six goals. Elsewhere, he created the third-most big chances (6) and had the fourth-best average player rating (7.07), as per SofaScore.

Southampton may look to bring in a new striker in the summer due to the departure of Broja back to Chelsea, and with Kalajdzic producing good numbers in front of goal this season, he could be a good option for Ralph Hasenhuttl.

The Saints struggled towards the back end of last season as they didn’t win any of their final six Premier League games, so it is likely that they will look to bring in some new talent in the summer, and a goalscorer like Kalajdzic would’ve been a good place to start, if only Bayern were not in their way.
