talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has revealed that there is genuine interest at Southampton to bring in Manchester City goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
Alex McCarthy, Fraser Forster and Willy Caballero are all currently on the books at St. Mary’s with the latter drafted in on a short-term deal to cope with the injury crisis that engulfed the position prior to Christmas.

McCarthy had established himself as the no.1 at the club prior to his hamstring issue and only made his first appearance since December on Tuesday against Liverpool. However, his future on the south coast is assured with the 32-year-old recently penning a new deal.
Forster who earned an England recall, for his incredible form during McCarthy’s absence is still expected to leave the club this summer alongside Caballero and Crook believes that Bazunu, fresh off a loan spell at rivals Portsmouth, is being tracked by Ralph Hassenhuttl.
He told GIVEMESPORT:
“They’re definitely in for Bazunu because Fraser Forster is unlikely to stay, he’s one of the top earners and he’s 34.
“The plan was always to keep either McCarthy or Forster and bring in a young goalkeeper like Bazunu. There’s also a target in Spain, so they’re scouring the market for an up and coming goalkeeper.”

While the name from Spain is not known, Bazunu, who has been hailed as ‘different class’, is certainly making a name for himself not least for saving a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty in a World Cup qualifier for the Republic of Ireland against Portugal back in September.
The 20-year-old has emerged as Ireland’s number one over the past year starting each of the last seven competitive internationals and his experience has been vital at club level in League One with Pompey keeping 16 clean sheets in 44 games, the fourth highest in the third tier.
He obviously impressed his teammates too collecting the players’ player of the season award at the club and his manager at Portsmouth, Danny Cowley is certainly a believer too, saying he can go all the way to the top which would make the former Shamrock Rovers shot-stopper a shrewd signing for their south coast rivals.
