A number of Nottingham Forest fans will be left angered after seeing footage emerge from their club’s last game.

Earlier this week, the Championship outfit took one step closer to becoming a Premier League club. Indeed, after a penalty shootout, they snuck past Sheffield United to make it into this season’s play-off final.

Forest had led the game at 3-1 on aggregate at one stage, only for United to peg them back and take the game all the way to spot-kicks.

However, when they did have that initial two-goal lead, footage (via Sky Sports) shared on Twitter shows Blades manager Paul Heckingbottom slamming the ball into right-back Jed Spence. It sparked a melee between the players and the visitors’ manager was lucky to not receive a red card.

TIF Thoughts on Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest…

In the end, this incident didn’t cost Forest as they squeezed through on penalties. Still, having led at this moment, had Heckingbottom been sent off – and some believe he should have been – it would have been hard to see United getting back into the game and then taking it to the wire.

With that in mind, Forest fans would likely be feeling a fair amount of anger regarding the whole situation. Considering their club hasn’t played in the Premier League for 23 years, they would have been hoping to get through the game without any drama.

Was Paul Heckingbottom lucky to not get sent off for this incident?

No

Heckingbottom is probably lucky Spence didn’t drop to the ground and make a huge deal of the impact. However, had the penalty shootout not gone Forest’s way, it’s probably fair to say the home support would have been looking back with rage at this moment for many years to come.
