Sky Sports presenter Joe Thomlinson has stated he wouldn’t be surprised to see Eddie Howe replaced at Newcastle United if form takes a dip next season.
There have been talks recently about Howe potentially being replaced this summer despite guiding Newcastle to an 11th-place finish in the Premier League after the club failed to win any of their first 14 games, with Jose Mourinho tipped to replace him.
Will Howe win silverware as Newcastle manager?
Mourinho has always spoken very fondly about the Magpies because of the very close relationship he had with former Newcastle manager Sir Bobby Robson, but has recently confirmed he will indeed be staying at Roma for next season.
Despite this, while speaking on the Football Daily YouTube channel, Thomlinson wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up on Tyneside at some stage next season.
He said: “I’m not sure whether he can take them to the next level, Eddie Howe. It wouldn’t surprise me – and I don’t think it would surprise any of us, actually – if there was a bit of a dodgy run and Jose Mourinho replaced him at the club.”
TIF Thoughts on Howe’s future…
Despite the rumours linking Mourinho with a sensational Premier League return, it would surely come as a huge shock to everyone involved at Newcastle and fans across the country if PIF decided to cut short Howe’s time on Tyneside after the work he and all his staff have managed to do with the Magpies since succeeding Steve Bruce.
While Mourinho may well want the Newcastle job at one point to do what his mentor did all those years ago, it would be criminal for Howe to leave after making some solid foundations in the few months he’s been at the helm.
