Matt Targett’s Newcastle United future is up in the air, but his girlfriend’s Instagram activity could hint at what it may look like.

Apart from the game against parent club Aston Villa, the on-loan defender managed to start every single game for Newcastle United since signing on Tyneside and became a huge member of Eddie Howe’s squad.

Who would you rather Newcastle sign?

Targett!

However, despite the defender claiming everyone knows what he wants to happen with his future with a beaming smile on his face, the Northern Echo has reported that he wishes to move back further down south, leaving his future very much up in the air.

Something that could point towards a permanent deal still happening this summer is a subtle change his girlfriend has made to her latest Instagram post as she posted a picture of herself and Targett what the caption: ‘Short & sweet, but what fun we’ve had. Forever proud of you’, only to then alter this caption later on, omitting ‘Short & sweet’.

TIF Thoughts on Targett’s future…

After a very impressive second half of the season with Newcastle – ranking inside the top four in the club’s WhoScored ratings – it’s no surprise that other clubs have taken an interest in signing Targett permanently, and if he wishes to be closer to his family, it would be difficult for Howe to begrudge him of that.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

While Targett played a huge role in Newcastle’s surge up the Premier League table, he may feel slightly annoyed with reports claiming the club are already looking at different left-back options in the form of Renan Lodi. Therefore, he could be conscious of a situation that happened at Aston Villa when they signed Lucas Digne and just wants to be somewhere he will be a guaranteed first-choice.
