Newcastle United could look to bring in Watford winger Ismaila Sarr this summer, according to Sky Sports man Keith Downie.

The 24-year-old has made 22 appearances this term as he suffered his second relegation in three seasons at Vicarage Road.

Do you think Newcastle will challenge for Europe next season?

FootballTransfers reported last month that members of Sarr’s entourage had met with Newcastle officials to discuss a deal for the Senegalese international, with the Hornets seeking in the region of £40m for the most prized asset.

However, The Sun has since claimed that the Magpies were thinking closer to half that fee, but that does seem unlikely given the forward has two years left on his current contract.

Yet, Downie still feels that Newcastle could still bring the player to the north-east this summer.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think there’s a chance that can happen. They would probably get him in a sort of cut-price deal with him being relegated; I can’t see him being in the Championship next season.

“And I would imagine he’s an Eddie Howe type of player in terms of the pace, the directness. I can see him working well at Newcastle.”

TIF Thoughts on Sarr to Newcastle…

Interestingly, Newcastle may have a bit of an inside man as Ryan Fraser shares the same agency in Wasserman.

Last month, The Daily Mail revealed that the Magpies were willing to listen to offers in the region of £50m for Allan Saint-Maximin in the summer, which could free up funds to bring a new winger to the club.

Sarr has managed to score 10 times and provide eight assists in 50 appearances in the Premier League, but at an ambitious club like Eddie Howe’s side as opposed to relegated Watford, the right-winger could shine. He’s already received plenty of praise from Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster, who called him a ‘freak’.

According to a report from Italian outlet MilanLive.it (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are also interested in signing Sarr, so Newcastle may face competition, but that level of suitor just goes to show the quality he possesses and he could be a top acquisition for the St James’ Park outfit as they head into their first full season under Howe.
