How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Newcastle have all but mathematically secured Premier League survival this year after a stunning run of form since the turn of the year that has seen them move into the top half of the table. However, the club’s new owners, the Saudi Arabian Private Investment Fund, have far bigger ambitions for the future.

Speaking on the latest NUFC matters episode, Wraith discussed the need for Newcastle to sign two new strikers, with the centre-forward position currently holding them back. He said (13.31), “We are lacking a centre-forward, a striker, a goalscorer, call it what you will. That is something we lack and until that is fixed, we’re always going to be in the same position.

“We need to invest in that area, we need to bring in two strikers.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s transfer plans

This is undoubtedly going to be a big summer at St. James’ Park as the Magpies look to improve their squad. They already spent over £100m during the January transfer window, which has done wonders for the team, and the funds now at their disposal make them big players in the market.

Up front, they are crying out for reinforcements. The club’s Premier League top goalscorer this season is Callum Wilson, who has managed just six goals having played only 15 games due to injury. Chris Wood, meanwhile, has managed only two strikes in 15 outings since joining from Burnley in January. If they do want to challenge for a European spot, someone who can find the back of the net on a regular basis is a must. Bringing in two such players would be even better.
