NUFC Matters host Chris Hall has revealed his excitement following the latest update on Newcastle United target Darwin Nunez.

£36m-valued Nunez is currently at Benfica, but is set for a move away from Portugal this summer. Given their new ownership, the Magpies are now major players in the transfer market, and Nunez is one of the names to have been linked with a move to St. James’ Park.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Gianluca di Marzio recently suggested Nunez is looking to move to a club with a “new project”, which would of course be of particular relevance to Newcastle. Speaking on the latest NUFC Matters Fan Forum episode, Hall expressed his anticipation, saying, “Obviously, the majority if Newcastle fans jumped straight on that.

“What team’s got a new project on the go for next season? So it certainly got me excited”.

TIF Thoughts on Nunez

Newcastle are certainly in need of a new striker. Callum Wilson’s injuries have reduced him to just 15 Premier League appearances this campaign, although he has managed to find the back of the net six times, while Chris Wood has managed just two goals in 15 outings in the top flight since his move from Burnley in January.

Nunez has enjoyed a breakout season at Benfica this term, netting 34 times in all competitions, including six in the Champions League. He was a menace against Liverpool in the quarter-finals, netting twice across the two legs and, at 22 years of age, he has plenty of years in front of him.

Of course, this report is not concrete, and there will plenty of interest in his services. Now, though, Newcastle can realistically think about signing such sought-after players, especially if they can show them a detailed plan of where they want to go in the next few years.
