Newcastle United could make a possible move from Lloyd Kelly this summer, with a potential reunion with Eddie Howe on the cards.

This is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking about Newcastle’s plans for this summer with GiveMeSport.

The young centre-back played a huge role in Bournemouth’s season, with 41 appearances to his name in the Championship alone as the Cherries secured promotion (via Transfermarkt).

It is believed the Toon are looking to add another centre-back this summer, having previously added Dan Burn back in the January window and seen the 30-year-old become a mainstay in the side.

A potential swoop for the Bournemouth man is an option, and it would not surprise Jones if the Magpies were to turn their attention to Howe’s former player.

He said: “They have been linked after a host of players in central defence, but don’t be surprised if they stick to British with a former Eddie Howe player in their sights in the shape of Lloyd Kelly from Bournemouth.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

It is apparent the 23-year-old has caught the attention of many in the game, with Howe himself previously being ‘blown away’ by the centre-back and Jonathan Woodgate describing him as a ‘Rolls-Royce’ defender.

It would certainly seem like a potentially difficult deal to do this summer with the defender still having two years on his deal and the Cherries making their return to the top flight.

But with the likes of Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez reduced to spots on the bench under Howe, there does seem as if there is room in the Newcastle squad for the Toon boss to improve.

However, given Bournemouth have been promoted back to the Premier League, we do wonder how much of an effect this will have had on the possibility of prising Kelly away from the south coast.
