Craig Hope has been speaking at a live show involving some local journalists in which he spoke about Newcastle United’s transfer plans.

It has been reported by Luke Edwards that Eddie Howe is set to have a budget of just £60m this summer, which is a lot less than what was made available in the previous January transfer window – although any outgoings would likely see that sum increase.

Will Newcastle spend more than £60 million?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

The fact that PIF have not yet been able to secure any new sponsorship deals for the Magpies could be a big reason behind this reported smaller budget, but even if only £60m is spent, the club could be able to box smart with free-agent signings and loan deals.

Hope has claimed that Newcastle are looking to bring in at least three players that would end up costing around £90m – smashing that reported budget claim.

He said: “We’re told there’s going to be three signings this summer, three signings at around the £30M mark. That’s three top-quality players who are coming into what they’ve already got.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

This is a pretty big claim from Hope given that there appear to be conflicting reports coming out from the club, with some suggesting there will only be a £60m budget available. But unless there are some major outgoings, signing three players that would end up costing around £90m doesn’t make a lot of sense.

In recent times, the Magpies have been linked with Dean Henderson, who reportedly has a £40m price tag on his head and would smash the majority of their budget, so it does appear that there are some blurred lines on Tyneside, but without a doubt, it looks set to be a hectic summer.
