Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Newcastle United would definitely be interested in Arnaut Danjuma in the summer transfer window.

Danjuma signed for Villarreal in the summer from Bournemouth for a fee in the region of £21.5 million, and he has impressed since his move to Spain, scoring 16 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions this season.

The 25-year-old winger has cemented his place in the Netherlands national side, and there have been recent reports earlier this month from the Daily Mail (via HITC) that claim Newcastle are interested in bringing him to the Premier League. The connection that he has with Eddie Howe from their time at Bournemouth could be a factor in getting the deal over the line.

Due to Howe and Danjuma working together previously, O’Rourke has claimed to GiveMeSport that Newcastle will ‘definitely’ be interested in him if he becomes available.

O’Rourke said: “He’s got the potential. He’s probably gone to Villarreal and surprised a lot of people who thought he struggled at Bournemouth, but he’s really impressed, and he’s now a regular in the Netherlands team as well.

“He does have a buyout clause in his contract, which is £40 million-plus, so that might again be too expensive for Newcastle in this window if their budget is not as big as many people are expecting.

“But I think Eddie Howe knows all about Danjuma, so he’s definitely somebody that he’ll be well aware of, and if he becomes available, I’m sure Newcastle would definitely be interested.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Danjuma, who has been hailed as a ‘nightmare’, has been superb for Villarreal this season in terms of stats, in La Liga he is the club’s top scorer with 10 goals, he had the fourth-most successful dribbles on average per game (1.4) and also registered the most shots on average per game (2.7), as per SofaScore.

With the excellent stats of the Dutch winger this season, he could be a good option for Howe in the summer, especially because he knows the player from Bournemouth, and with the links of an exit for Allan Saint-Maximin, he could be the perfect replacement.
