Journalist Jordan Cronin has claimed that Isaac Hayden may leave in the summer after posting a message to the Newcastle United fans on Twitter.

Newcastle midfielder Hayden has unfortunately been injured for the entirety of the second half of the season, with his last appearance in the Premier League coming in a 4-0 loss against Manchester City in December.

Hayden recently sent a message to the Toon faithful on social media, thanking the fans for their ‘incredible support’ over the last six years.

The English midfielder signed for the Magpies from Arsenal in 2016 and has been a great servant for the club since, making 171 appearances in all competitions across the six seasons that he has been at the club, while his current contract is not set to expire until 2026.

Despite that, Cronin has said on Twitter that his recent post seems like a farewell message.

Cronin wrote: “This reads like a farewell to me. What a servant Isaac has been. And most importantly, what a top guy he is as well. If this is the end, then he deserves every bit of love from the NUFC fanbase.”

TIF Thoughts on Cronin’s comments…

Hayden has been an integral part of Newcastle’s side since he joined the club, featuring heavily in the 2016/17 Championship side that got promoted to the Premier League and has kept his place in the side throughout their current stint in the top flight.

However, he featured 14 times in the first half of the Premier League this season as the Magpies found themselves in the relegation zone, but after some January investment, they turned things around and finished 11th as the midfielder sat out through injury, having been deselected from the 25-man league squad.

With the new ownership, there is likely to be a haul of new players coming in the door at St James’ Park, so Hayden may see himself fall further down the pecking order, which may consequently lead to an exit in the near future.
