Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge was left impressed by what he saw from Bruno Guimaraes on Monday night in Newcastle United’s victory.

The Brazilian was making his 16th appearance in the Premier League against Arsenal having been introduced slowly into Eddie Howe’s XI.

Is Bruno Newcastle's best January signing?

It had taken six games in the English top flight for Guimaraes to be rewarded with his first start under the 44-year-old manager and he provided his side with a goal in return against Southampton (via Transfermarkt).

He added his fifth goal in a black and white shirt on Monday night, with the 24-year-old putting the game out of sight for the visitors late into the clash at St James’ Park.

And it was apparent the Sky Sports reporter and Tottenham Hotspur fan Bridge was blown away with just how good Guimaraes has turned out to be: “96 minutes & Newcastle 1-11 keeping up this intensity. Unbelievable. Wilson brilliant, Bruno Guimarães top 4 player & Joelinton – what a season,” he tweeted.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s tweet…

We have to agree with Bridge’s judgment of Guimaraes – albeit still being early days, the midfielder looks to have been a really smart signing for the Tyneside club.

Against Mikel Arteta’s men, the Brazilian put in a superb all-around performance with a goal, three tackles, 73 touches and two clearances to his name (via SofaScore).

And Newcastle fans will have enjoyed the performance even more knowing the Gunners were believed to be one of the sides who had the midfielder on their radar before he chose to play his football on Tyneside.
