Newcastle United have been linked with Arnaut Danjuma ahead of the summer window, but transfer insider Dean Jones feels it could be a risky move.

Jones was speaking to This Is Futbol ahead of the summer window with the Villarreal forward recently being discussed as a possible target on Tyneside.

According to journalist Aaron Stokes, Danjuma has a lot of admiration for Eddie Howe and their past relationship could work in Newcastle’s favour this summer.

The 25-year-old only played 15 times under Howe during their time at Bournemouth but failed to provide either a goal or assist (via Transfermarkt).

However, it is believed the pair parted ways on ‘good terms’ with Howe sacked by the Cherries at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, but Jones believes a potential deal would come with a lot of risks:

“It’s a risky one, really, like he could really take off at Newcastle under Howe. But equally, I could see him not,” said Jones.

“And that will be a risk for Newcastle, to sign somebody like him that doesn’t have any output in the first few months and the fans quickly lose faith and hope in.

“He‘s a good footballer, but at a time when they’re starting this exciting project, they have to be sure that he is the right fit.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We do think Danjuma has the potential to really take off in the Newcastle side and has shown a lot of promise over the last couple of seasons.

During his season in La Liga, the 25-year-old has been able to provide 13 goal involvements in just 23 appearances but the most impressive form came in the Champions League with six goals and assists (via Transfermarkt).

With a reported £64m release clause the Toon would have to be certain he could hit the ground running in the Premier League so in that aspect it certainly would be a huge risk.
